Year 1 & 2 - 'Otters & Hedgehogs'

Welcome to Otters and Hedgehogs!

Our class teacher is Mrs Gippert. Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Stevens and Mrs Carter. Mrs Stevens teaches us on Wednesday morning and we also have Forest School on Wednesday morning too with Miss Emily. Mr Browne teaches us PE and Computing on a Wednesday afternoon and Mr Roberts, our PE coaches teaches us on Thursday morning.

During our topic work this term we will be answering the questions Where Does Our Food Come From? and Why Do We Wear Poppies? Using the fruit in our school grounds, we will make crumbles and then find out where each ingredient has come from. We will have a visit from a farmer and to finish our topic we will be making sweet or savoury scones, using our knowledge of where the ingredients have come from. Harvest will b e celebrated as part of this topic. We will then be looking at Remembrance to answer the question Why Do We Wear Poppies?.
After half term we will turn our attention to Christmas preparations and our nativity performance. We will be visiting Norden Farm theatre to watch One Snowy Night.

Homework
The children are expected to read with an adult for 10 - 15 minutes a day. Please continue to read to your children as this models positive reading behaviours and helps to extend the children's vocabulary, imagination and develop a real love of story and reading. Reading books and journals should be school everyday. Reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
The children will be given phonics and Maths tasks to work on half termly.

As always, we are keen to work with you to support your children in reaching their full potential and to look after their well being. If you have any concerns, questions or issues you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office by phone or email and we will aim to respond the same day.

Thank you for your continued support.
