Year 1 & 2 - 'Otters & Hedgehogs'
Welcome to Otters and Hedgehogs!
Our class teacher is Mrs Gippert. Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Stevens and Mrs Carter. Mr Browne teaches us Computing on Thursday afternoons. We also have PE with a coach on a Friday afternoon. On Wednesday mornings we have our Forest School sessions with Miss Emily.
Our topic for this half term will be looking at the question Why Do We Wear Poppies? We will be learning about Remembrance Day, life in the trenches and how animals were used in World War 1. In our art work we will look at the work of Claude Monet and his famous poppy fields painting. In Maths we will be looking at addition and subtraction and in English we will be looking at the story The Dragon's Hiccups and focusing on basic story and sentence structure and punctuation whilst writing our own dragon stories. As we near Christmas we will be writing character descriptions of those naughty little Christmas elves!
The children are expected to read with an adult for 10 - 15 minutes a day. Please continue to read to your children as this models positive reading behaviours and helps to extend the children's vocabulary, imagination and develop a real love of story and reading. Reading books and journals should be school everyday. Reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
The children will be given a piece of Phonics/Spelling homework on a Monday and this must be returned by the following Monday.
A piece of Maths homework will set on a Friday and must be returned by the following Friday.
As always, we are keen to work with you to support your children in reaching their full potential and to look after their well being. If you have any concerns, questions or issues you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office by phone or email and we will aim to respond the same day.
Thank you for your continued support.
On Wednesday 4th November we were lucky to have a visit from the Berkshire Reptile Centre. During the visit we all had the opportunity to get close to a variety of reptiles. We held the bearded dragons, stroked the blue tongued skink, admired the giant tortoise's beautiful patterned shell and even let the snakes wind themselves around our shoulders! It was a fantastic experience and we all wanted to thank the Radnage PTA for making it possible.
On Friday 4th December we all enjoyed the Christmas Crafternoon.
On Wednesdays we enjoy our Forest School sessions. We love mud!
On Monday 7th December we had our first Now Press Play experience! We had to save our dog Scruffy from the evil Witch of the Waste who had turned him into plastic. We had to explore different materials and their properties and use the Wizard Sillystuff and his wand to rescue Scruffy. It was great fun!
On Tuesday 15th December we had our Christmas party. We played games, ate some festive treats and watched a special message from Santa recorded just for us. He left us some presents too!
