Year 1 & 2 - 'Otters & Hedgehogs'

Welcome to Otters and Hedgehogs!

Our class teacher is Mrs Gippert. Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Stevens and Mrs Carter. Mrs Gibbons teaches us on Wednesday. We also have PE with a coach on a Thursday afternoon. On Wednesday mornings we have our Forest School sessions with Miss Emily.

Our topics for this term will be All About Me. We will be learning about our bodies, our skeletons and the roles they play and our senses. We will be visited by a hearing dog and it's 'human' to help us appreciate our sense of hearing. As part of our Christian value of caritas, we will plan and hold a fundraiser for the hearing dogs charity. In Art we will look at self portraits; trying out different media and creating a gallery. After half term we will turn our attention to Christmas preparations and our nativity performance. We will be visiting Norden Farm theatre to watch Kipper's Snowy Night.

Homework
The children are expected to read with an adult for 10 - 15 minutes a day. Please continue to read to your children as this models positive reading behaviours and helps to extend the children's vocabulary, imagination and develop a real love of story and reading. Reading books and journals should be school everyday. Reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
The children will be given a piece of Phonics/Spelling homework on a Monday and this must be returned by the following Monday.
A piece of Maths homework will set on a Friday and must be returned by the following Friday.

As always, we are keen to work with you to support your children in reaching their full potential and to look after their well being. If you have any concerns, questions or issues you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office by phone or email and we will aim to respond the same day.

Thank you for your continued support.
